Oberon is at the centre of some 65,000 hectares of softwood plantation. The museum’s Forest & Timber display provides an overview of the history of the timber industry in the Oberon district. It features displays by the Forestry Corporation, and Borg Panels, and a custom made video of Mangan Harvesting and Haulage undertaking mechanical harvesting in the plantation. There are numerous panels and photos interpreting and depicting the history of the plantation establishment era. Audio visual screens assist the story telling, and present a collection of photos and archived film. Numerous forestry tools, saws and sundry items, including a heavy horse in harness, help to tell the story.
